His biggest thing is that he puts his self-image over everything else. You could probably play armchair psychologist and say that he has self-esteem issues from his clearly strained family life and upbringing, but I'd say he's just a massive narcissist. Ultimately, it seems like everything related to the charity was laziness and stupidity, but his reasons for not coming forward when he supposedly found out all clearly relate to his public image. He uses weasel phrases throughout to make himself look as best as possible while admitting the minimum amount of fault.
