From what I've heard it takes like 3-4 hours of straight gameplay to unlock a character, less with missions. If you have any Fighter Currency you get rounded up to the next multiple and able to use that to still unlock whoever you want, but for new players without any it's kinda ass. I can't see any way they don't change it to allow you to choose who to work toward like Valorant in the next patch.
