It's not a misconception that an opinion is less valuable because someone can't back it up when asked to elaborate. That's just the mark of a poorly formed opinion. Like, if you're going to use nebulous terms like "old school liberal" and throw out claims like "not everyone to the right of you is a conservative" to shut down the topic, you need to elaborate a bit more.

Anyway, if no one is owed an answer, then no one is owed respect either for dropping a big steaming pile of shit in the topic and leaving.

I'm staying far away from the specifics to what you guys were arguing about in terms of were they an asshole about it. If he was an asshole about not answering your questions, thats a different matter. Im addressing strictly this angle that one shouldn't post in a topic unless they want to engage with follow up questions/discussion. Or else, that means "they are wrong."

That's a fallacy at best.

For example, if I visit a community that thinks the earth is flat, and I tell them it's not, I don't owe an elaboration to these morons just because they ask. And their respect for me that I won't engage or "debate them" is about as useful as a pile of shit.
