I believe you, hope I wasn't insinuating otherwise.

I'm curious. You say that samurai are actually called bushi. Then what are samurai? sengoku/edo media in Japanese with subtitles, generally the word 'samurai' will be spoken when it appears in the subtitles. Is it just that samurai is the modern japanese word for what in the period would have been called a bushi?
The difference between Samurai and Bushi have changed over periods.
Some periods they are synonymously with each others, while others Samurai is one step above Bushi, or the highest ranked Bushi.
In Sengo, they are synonymously.
In Edo, Samurai is a highranked Bushi that is allowed to talk with the Shogun, while normal Bushi are not allowed to speak with the Shogun.
