It looks shallow because it simulates a white sand beach. I'm not sure if you've been to one before but I've been to one once in real life and it's super hard to tell the depth in a white sand beach. It always looks pretty shallow because the water reflects the white sand and stays pretty clear to the bottom. You can tell it's getting deeper because the blue gets more intense in that area. ...
