The first Nuzlocke I ever won was because my last surviving team member, a Victreebel, dodged a Blizzard from Blue's Blastoise -- also his last Pokemon -- and score the killing blow. It was literally close enough that if the Blizzard had hit, I would have lost, but that Victreebel pulled through with the win for me. I can't betray something like that.

Hell yeah, go Victreebel. What a champ.

The Zubat and Tentacool lines have that negative reputation almost entirely because of how common they are. They're all really well-designed Pokemon I think. Any Pokemon that appears that frequently isn't going to be all that exotic or interesting. Though Zubat is a little bit different in that once it got to become Crobat, it became an easy to get Pokemon that also happened to be really good all the way through to the end of the game. Tentacruel is also pretty solid, but it has a million other Water types to compete with.

They have that reputation because they make caves and water routes a nightmare, almost single handedly in Gen 1's case. It's not their fault and doesn't mean that their designs are any worse of course, but I'm still surprised people don't hold it against them. It seems like a lot of people like Crobat and even Golbat despite all of that.
