That works great until you realize that most banks are going to give you something like a 0.1% interest rate on a savings account with only 10K in it. You could maybe get two or three percent if you locked it into a cd for a few years, but for the sake of your estimate it might be better to say that you put that 10K into an indexed fund on the stock market.

Things seem to work differently in America. Interest free savings accounts here are currently offering between 4.5% and 5.2% with a minimum of 500.
