The problem with banning or even discouraging "political" discussion, is that nowadays one side can just take anything they don't want discussed and make it part of their "politics." Human rights, science, basic decency, etc. are all spun as "political" in certain contexts. I don't think they care. They want all of it banned from here. If they want the boards to stick around (and that's a big if) they want them to be a place where people will ask a question about a game and get an answer. No arguments. No debates. Nothing.
