That's probably how he could even launch another sci-fi show off the ground, knowing what Fox did to the other one cough firefly cough He went to fox wanting to head a Star Trek show that eventually became discovery. They turned him down. He came back with a Star Trek-like show that had some humor to it and they agreed on the grounds he made it look like a parody.
