It's so unfortunate that Tesla became the first big electric car company and own the charging network that everyone is switching to.Back in 2014 when Elon Musk was known predominantly for things like Climate activism and not being a full on shit head, he released all of Tesla's patents to the public. So they might "own" the charging network because they're the ones who built it, but they made it so anyone can build the exact same thing.
