Ultimately the same issue with Cleveland. They both work as supporting characters, but being the main focus? They make that actual observation themselves (can't remember if was in TCS itself or on FG). The central gag of The Cleveland Show is, in effect, the show itself - seriously, "All these characters we have, and Cleveland is the one to get a spinoff?!" is meant to be funny because it's so unlikely and nonsensical. Which would have been fine for a one-off, but making a show that is in effect its own punchline isn't really sustainable (I was gonna make a pithy comment about how it would be like actually making a series out of one of the entries from the Simpsons Spin-off Showcase, but I would unironically watch the shit out of the Clancy And Seymour buddy cop show, so...)
