If the prequels came first, or at least were preplanned, there would probably be a bigger time skip between them. This is the real world reason, but in universe there's only like 10000 Jedi and literally thousands of planets with millions of beings on each, most would never even see or hear of a Jedi. Add in Palps actively waging a disinformation campaign and destroying knowledge of the Force and the Jedi once he was in power and it makes sense to a degree that there are skeptics like Han. ...
