As if everyone is assumed to be straight until they announce otherwise. Everyone is. It's a problem in fiction, too. The default protagonist in readers heads is cishet white dude unless explicitly named and described otherwise. When we get rid of that kind of thing as an assumption, then we can move on to the other part of your idea that no one needs to be "out" and proud because it's been normalized.
