To be fair, even as "Hooth-oot," it still basically ends in a "hoot" sound. Honestly, it's more natural to read "Hoothoot" as "hooth-oot" than "hoot-hoot," I think. Yes, it's an owl, but also... Are there any words with a th in the middle where you pronounce the hard t?
