She was a French peasant in the 15th century and gets a suit of armor and goes to the war in Orleans cheerfully.

She always goes to where the fighting is most intense and so they start to listen to her. She becomes a symbol of Divine Favor.

She's smart, insane, and understands tactics. She'll eventually end up being the defacto 2nd-in-command on the battlefield. She intuitively understands the nature of cannon warfare, which is new, and how it can be used to breech castle walls (as opposed to lobbing cannonballs over the wall, which was the standard tactic). Instead of doing that she points all the cannons at the castle wall, at a single point, and that works extremely well.

Eventually they burn her alive for crossdressing.
