I am actually more of an advocate for an indoor bike because you can structure your workouts better. I say that ironically, as formerly being into cycling I couldn't stand indoors and how the resistance pattern and fit largely differed. Performance on-road was a more critical focus so I was more protective of not screwing that up. But when it's in the context of starting on a blank slate, I would go towards indoor. You can exploit limits and not have to deal with uncontrollable grade changes, hazards, or reaching the point of cramping or collapsing on a moving bike. On a stationary bike, you just stay up and can abruptly stop as you please. --- Competing every night, both ends, shoot inside/outside, fast break, transition, Monta Ellis have it all ...
