As a big fan of Twin Peaks: The Return, I'm all about artists refusing to give audiences the ending/expectations they want. I think ambiguous endings are typically better than happy ones. If the devs wanted to do this, they would've. They're setting up a revival/reunion payoff for the third game I think. No one knows for sure, but I definitely think it's a lot more than "Cloud's crazy and just seeing things" or "it's Jenova."
