I watched the show solely for the supernatural element and its "monster of the week" setup when it originally aired. There are like a dozen other things one could watch the show for and enjoy it without even touching the romance. I didn't defeat my own argument. It is literally THE central plot. 1. Can a slayer have...romance? 2. Can a slayer have romance... With a vampire she is sworn to slay 3. Can she be a normal girl? A normal girl....has romance Like, thay IS the fucking show. Holy moly Did you realize Twilight is romance despite having superhero fights in it?
