TopicI never knew Dishonored would be so Half-Life 2ish

All the Dishonored games are pretty good, but none really replicate the feel of the first game. I always blamed it on the between-mission chilling at the pub with your buddies, which gives a much-needed respite from the plague, corpses everywhere, oppressive state police, etc. Now that I think of it, it has that "pleasure amidst looming danger" feel, somewhat like Masque of the Red Death.

In any case, the get-togethers with friends angle is in short supply later on, and even when you find friends, it ain't the same feel. To Dishonored 2's credit, though, it has some of the all-time best levels in the series. DTTO isn't quite as good as the first two games, but it doesn't embarrass the series' legacy or anything. It just feels slighter because...well, it is -- about half the length of D2, IIRC.

Didn't know about the Half-Life parallels, but I can kinda see it. Maybe get some ideas for a HL game, and when it doesn't work out, retool the alien/technology aspect into a dark, supernatural thriller.
