And if he couldn't win over voters in the primary of the party he hopes to represent, people who would be closer to him ideologically than moderates, centrists, or independents outside the party, then that doesn't say much about his ability to win in a general election.
The democratic party is not ideologically close to Bernie. They hate the idea of actual affordable healthcare and education, they love war, and they love the vast wealth inequality. The democratic party aligns with their donors and their donors are just as rich as republican donors (often donating to both parties). Primary voter participation rate is even more abysmal than the general and is mostly made of party diehards who just gulp down whatever the party tells them to gulp down.

Keep patting yourself on the back for the democratic party favorite winning the democratic party popularity contest, though. That rock-solid process gave us hillary who lost to a clown in the actual election that matters.
