The fear often based on what a minority might do independent of the actions of any individual. Additionally, racism isn't always rooted in fear. Racism as exploiting a group that's easy to target doesn't really work with mutants. Most mutants have skills that could help rich people get richer and are people that are not easily replaceable, those two factors combined generally translate to economic security. --- "Something's wrong!
