Somehow....Dragon's Dogma into freed itself into a sequel. When Capcom was going through its dark times with the transition to HD, Dragon's Dogma existed as a weird and quirky RPG where thanks to the innovative pawn system they created a single player game that felt like you were playing an online one. You could create your own pawn to be a member of your party, but that pawn could also be sent out to be in the parties of your friends or just random people online where they continue to grow stronger and gain experience about the world and quests and eventually are just stronger than your own character and evetually you're running around with a party of high level pawns that are like your own personal D&D bodyguards and you climb on the backs of giant monsters like a bunch of sickos.

So now they're running it back 12 years later with a bigger budget and story, but the core game mechanics and all its weirdness is still intact. Averaging an 89% so far through 60 reviews this is indeed this seems to be pretty much what fans have been hoping for although just like the first game i'm sure it'll still turn some away.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a landmark release for open world action RPGs. From its thoroughly immersive world and its stellar combat to the incredible emergent gameplay its bevy of systems enable, Capcom's long-anticipated sequel delivers spectacularly in more ways than one. By definition, it's going to turn some people off with its many eccentricities, but it's those eccentricities exactly that make it such an utterly unique and unforgettable experience.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a triumph of a game that wants you to just take your time and see everything you possibly can. You'll be constantly pulled from your path by a new cave, a random quest, a chest one of your Pawns has found, random fights, and it's all part of the experience. I adore this game, and while it has some aspects I think some will find too clunky, it's a masterpiece.

GamingTrend - 9.5/10
Dragon's Dogma II is a masterfully refined take on the original game. It's easy to get lost in its massive world for hours on end and truly immerse yourself into the role of the Arisen. There are a ton of technical problems and oddities throughout the game, but somehow those didn't stop us from having a blast. In an age where the limitations of video games are a known quantity, Dragon's Dogma II transcends them to become a game that truly feels real.

Gamespot - 9/10
Even so, these performance issues did little to deter my love for this game. It's not often that a cult classic gets the green light for a sequel, especially 12 years after the original game was released. Capcom hasn't tried to make Dragon's Dogma 2 more palatable to potentially attract a wider audience, either. It stuck to the first game's core values and expanded upon them to create a bigger and better game that consistently delights in its approach to seamless exploration and the thrill of adventure. This means it feels very familiar in a lot of ways, but it's a game for those who fell in love with the original, despite its flaws, and will hopefully find an entirely new audience who perhaps never gave the first game a chance. Even after 40 hours, my heart continues to grow fonder for this special game. It's an exceptional achievement that's quite unlike anything else, and I wouldn't hesitate to place it amongst the pantheon of Capcom's very best.

Game Informer - 9/10
Dragons Dogma 2 captures the spirit of the original without sanding down the edges of what made it excellent. Its insistence on player exploration and discovery, coupled with an ending I will think about for the rest of the year, makes Dragons Dogma 2 a standout game and a worthy successor.

Noisy Pixel - 8/10
Dragon's Dogma 2 represents a significant achievement in the action RPG genre. It crafts an expansive, immersive world that beckons players to explore its depths, engage in tactical combat, and grow alongside their characters. The game demands patience and a willingness to delve into its complexities, offering a rewarding experience for those who commit to its journey.

IGN - 8/10
Dragons Dogma 2 is a strange and wonderful game that seems haunted by some of yesteryears bugaboos. It is a retelling and reimplementation of all of those wonderful ideas from the 2012 cult-classic, including an awesome dynamic world and some of the best combat in the genre that integrates a subtle but amazingly complex physics system. On the other hand, its finicky ally AI, clunky climbing, choppy frame rate, and camera with a habit of going haywire at the worst times are all features I wish hadnt been brought back for another round. Even so, theres an action-RPG here thats richly rewarding and incomparable to its contemporaries if you can be patient with its quirks and open to embracing its hands-off open-world and quest designs.
