Though the 40 hour work week is much better for manual labor it's not as good for knowledge work. The 8 hour day often drags on and it can be difficult when you finish a task with 15 minutes left in the day but can't leave for another 15 minutes. So you start another task and then end up leaving an hour or two late.

Last week I worked 40 hours in 4 days and then had to use 8 hours of PTO to take 6 hours off on Friday. Sad thing is that's typical of every company I've worked for
I may have worded my comment incorrectly. Im in full support of the 4 day work week. I also finish most of my tasks in a couple of hours and spend the rest of the day pretending to look busy. I was just trying to say that theres no reason we cant continue to whittle down the work week as long as we get the work done.
