Theres zero reason that we cant keep improving over the historically horrible work system in this so-called 1st world country while places like Sweden keep improving employee health and happiness.

But big oil and timber wont let that happen. Even Boeing had that whistleblower killed after they said anything.
Though the 40 hour work week is much better for manual labor it's not as good for knowledge work. The 8 hour day often drags on and it can be difficult when you finish a task with 15 minutes left in the day but can't leave for another 15 minutes. So you start another task and then end up leaving an hour or two late.

Last week I worked 40 hours in 4 days and then had to use 8 hours of PTO to take 6 hours off on Friday. Sad thing is that's typical of every company I've worked for
