I'm not saying an urban legend can't have an identifiable source, but if 90% of us could tell you exactly where they came from, that doesn't seem particularly "folkloric." I can't speak for the others because they were from before my time, but did Sonic and Tails being in Melee ever really get that divorced from the source? --- Congrats on Advokaiser for winning the 2018 Guru Contest!
