Railgun was simply crazy.

Go unsafe and be effective against everything that's above common enemiy.

A lot of ammo, short reload times, no problems with accuracy or range, no problems with enemy armor, crazy damage, backpack slot still free,

Shoot, run, reload while running, shoot again.

When the railgun is as good at dealing with charger armor as rocket launchers, then there is something wrong with it.

And it's not like that chargers don't have an obvious weakpoint. If I have no option of killing them from the front, than someone will have to attack them from behind. It may also give me a reason to try to impact grenades again.

People say "don't nerv stuff, just buff the others!" but how? The issue of the railgun was that it had peak performance in every metric except crowd damage, with not a single downside.

You would have to buff the recoilless to mini-nuke level able to oneshot chargers to buff it on railgun levels, justifying the squadreload and limited ammo it has compared to the gun.
