Watt: I love her abilities, I love her design, I love electricity-themed characters, I love that she can actually do damage to Bowser even when he's in invincibility mode. It's true that she has basically nothing to do in the story, and it's true that her overworld ability is kind of bland, but that's the way it goes. Sorry if this is all just pointless personal stuff, but I just really like Watt!

Smithy: I mean, he's barely a character, but it's fine. As the final boss to an RPG, he's very fine. His appearance is kind of interesting; Mario characters are very rarely mechanical and robotic, they tend to just be creatures or plants come to life. This guy looks like a robotic Santa Claus dwarf king, and you fight him in a dark, gross factory. Smithing his own head to turn it into things to attack you with is an inspired choice. Even though I do like Smithy, he's not as good as Dimentio or the Shadow Queen, but Smithy also only shows up for five seconds before you fight him. He's not exactly the Necron of Mario, but he's not that far off.

Mario 64 Got Milk Commercial: One of the classic 90s commercials. Although, these kids at the start of the commercial jumping into a wall over and over again, man they suck. I've never seen such bad playing. Even for seven-year-olds, they just completely suck. And it's like... I'm sorry, there's already a type of food that Mario consumes that makes him grow, and it's sure as hell not milk. But the nostalgia of this commercial is so strong that I just don't care.

Heavy Troopa: It seems the remake renamed them to "Big Troopas," okay. Well, the idea of really fat Paratroopas is kind of funny, and the threat they pose to you is immediately obvious, so I'm on board with this. I like their stupid half-closed eyes, like they're barely awake and able to force themselves out of bed to fight Mario. But I bet you nominated them for the quote "Heavy Troopa's ready to launch," which is actually a really good way to get across to a dumbass 10-year-old that it's about to fly into Peach's face. Strange that these were invented by Mario RPG, and have never appeared in a real game, though.
Bowser
Super Mario Wonder: It's interesting that THIS is considered innovative and crazy by Mario standards. It does anything differently at all, and people (including me) treat it like a huge innovation. It's like... this is the amount of difference and innovation that would ideally be in each Mario game. Like, imagine if instead of fifteen years of NSMBs, each game innovated and differed as much as SMW. How much different would the "default" Mario game be by now? I don't know! This isn't like the greatest 2D Mario game ever, but it sure as hell blows half of them out of the water. Also, the return of Daisy? I wonder what motivated that decision. Probably an attempt to establish that this will be a slightly off-kilter Mario game.

Goombas: THE video game enemy. Nothing about them makes any sense, except that they tie into the theme of "mushrooms," but you immediately understand that they're here to be enemies. They even look sort of nonthreatening, like they're enemies, but they can't really do much to hurt you, just walk slowly at you and scowl. At least Koopa Troopas have hands. So much of Goomba culture will never be explained, like how they can even manufacture hats, or why they serve Bowser, or why they even bother trying to fight Mario. I dunno, there's just something that screams "mundane weakling" about them, even though if a mushroom sprouted legs, grew to be a foot tall, and started walking at me with a scary face, I'd be terrified.

Beware the Forest's Mushrooms
Goombella: It was a good idea to make goombas be the 'normal guy who teams up with you at the start of the game' companions. The Carth Onasi of Mario, if you will. Goombella is definitely better than Goombario, but I don't know if I'd call her especially good. She is sassier than him, though, which is to her benefit. I don't think I ever used her again after I got other companions. And man, imagine being part of a race where the first syllable of everyone's name has to be "Goom," you'd run out of short names so fast. She got insanely lucky with a three-syllable one.
Booster (Super Mario RPG)
Wiggler Wednesday Typo
Shigeru Miyamoto

Chain Chomp: Such a great enemy. You immediately understand the rules it operates under, you immediately understand that it behaves like a territorial chained-up dog, and it just looks cool. It looks like it'd plausibly fuck Mario up if it touches him, unlike a Goomba. Too bad we never got a chain chomp companion in the RPGs.
