Each worker can only take care of a certain number of children - varies by age but say 6 as an average - so for those workers to earn a reasonable wage the daycare has to charge enough per child to pay the workers with the proceeds from 4 children, with the other 2 children paying for overhead.

Yeah, childcare is honestly just a labor intensive job. And it's like a max of 4 per teacher in some places for infants
