Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Mario Kart (Series)
Super Mario World
Cape Feather
Admiral Bobbery
New Donk City
Super Mario RPG
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Nintendo: The last completely good Nintendo console. I know the Wii sold like gangbusters, but dedicated gamers were never going to like the controls. The SNES just did everything right... except alienate every third party developer, of course.

- Kuribo's Shoe Tier
Rosalina
Luigi Wins Without Doing Anything
Super Mario Bros. 3
Kuribo's Shoe
Paper Mario
Super Mario 64
Bowser (RPG Versions)
Mario Kart 64

Super Paper Mario

Mario Tennis (N64)

Rainbow Road (General): This is perfect, conceptually, as the "ultimate level" in a Mario racing game. The earlier ones are better, though, back when they were trying to be hard as balls. Back when there were no rails, and my sister simply could not get anything but last place, and would throw the controller down in frustration. I like the idea of every Mario Kart having a different super long, complicated final level that's a big rainbow turned into a road. It's such a part of Marioness that it's even in the film!
Yoshi
Super Mario 64 DS
Minus World
Stretchy Mario Face (Mario 64)

Mario (Character): It's-a him, Mario! I wonder where Mario ranks in the most well-known fictional characters of all time. Like, is he more famous than Superman? I don't know! I'll give Mario the second highest tier, but honestly, he is, as we all know, a noncharacter. The most noncharacter of them all, except for Peach. The easiest comparison is Link. Link, to me, is designed to be the embodiment of "the Hero." He's always has his little hero's journey story going on, he always has his classic sword and shield, he always has to obtain The Magic Sword that lets you defeat The Villain, he always has to achieve whatever number of deeds before riding to fight The Villain, the world is always at stake, and so on, and so forth. Mario is the hero of his story, but everything is taken less seriously (even the most serious Mario title is way cartoonier than the least serious Zelda one), he doesn't look or act or sound like a The Hero, his skills aren't similar to what you'd expect from The Hero, he doesn't need weapons or magic to triumph, and he never gets anything at the end of the story as a reward. I guess Peach baked him a cake once. Mario games are almost the anti-Hero's Journey, in that nothing is learned, nothing is really at stake that much, and nothing needs to be achieved besides punching Bowser a lot. I think this is why Luigi is such a more compelling character, because he's the one who has to overcome his fears and insecurities to achieve things, he's the one who needs help from others to accomplish his goals, and he's the one who sort of learns and grows (in comparison to Mario, at least) at the end of his journeys. Then again, maybe I'm just wrong, because I still like Mario way more than Sonic, who also has all of those qualities.

- Hammer Suit Tier
Paratroopas
Dire Dire Docks (Theme)
Link (Mario Kart)
Dr. Goomba Tower
Italians
Charles Martinent's Cameo (Film): Martinet voicing Mario and Luigi's father is a sensible use of him, as is the random guy saying their voices sound good. I dunno what you expect me to say here. You know, looking at a random frame of Giuseppe from the movie, I'm wondering... how old are Mario and Luigi supposed to actually be? Because I've never seen a mustache like that on anyone under the age of 50.
Chris Pratt
Triple Jump
Timed Hits
Super Mario Bros. Movie
SupperMarioBroth
Super Mario Bros.
Postgame Optional Challenge Levels
Isle Delfino

Nabbit: He's fine. One of the better random extra characters added since, jeez, what counts as modern Mario? He's from 2012, I don't even know if that counts anymore. The pun in his name is really good, and I like his kerchief. Is he the first intentionally overpowered player character added to a Mario game to be easy mode? I'm fine with Mario adding a character to the recurring roster who's neither hero nor villain. Honestly a better morally ambiguous character who is ambivalent toward both good and evil than Shadow the Hedgehog.
Bowser
Supernintendo Chalmers: I rewatched the clip for this. I like Chalmers going from happy to angry when Ralph says his name. He'd probably get over it if he ate an unforgettable luncheon, though. Is Chalmers the Simpsons character with the greatest meme presence relative to his importance in the show, discounting Sneed?
Hell Valley Sky Trees
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Death-Obsessed Luma (Film)
Cappy
Shy Guy
Valentina
Lack of Mario vs Sonic (Character Battles)
Smash 64 Commercial
Pirahna Plant (Smash Bros)
Mysterious (Mario Paint)
Peach's Castle
