Bruce Timm is partly responsible for creating Batman: TAS and the DCAU as a whole, an extremely beloved and well made franchise.

He also, for whatever reason, really really really ships Batman and Batgirl together. A lot of people justifiably find this super fucking weird. Batgirl is not only far younger than he is, she's also the daughter of Commissioner Gordon who is one of Batman's closest friends. If that wasn't bad enough, she's also the first Robin's primary love interest (if you ignore those ludicrous Starfire shippers). So this relationship basically has Batman banging his best friend's daughter and his son's ex-girlfriend.

Timm went so far as to add this to the animated adaptation of The Killing Joke, a seminal Batman story that included Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, something fans had been wanting for nearly twenty years.

Ok wow I can't picture Batman being that raunchy so I can understand why fans would be upset about it.
