Basically:
- They elected Kristina Karamo, an election denier, as party chair.
- At least two state party meetings have ended in physical altercations. Someone was kicked in the nuts on at least one occasion.
- She misused funds and the Michigan GOP is on the verge of bankruptcy and likely broke campaign finance laws (https://www.mlive.com/politics/2023/12/michigan-gop-on-the-brink-of-bankruptcy-broke-campaign-finance-laws-report-alleges.html)
- They voted to oust Kristina Karamo and elected Pete Hoekstra to be party chair
- Karamo is an election denier, though, so she refused to accept the fact that she was ousted.
- There are now two dueling factions of the Michigan GOP and theyre going to have two separate conventions (https://apnews.com/article/michigan-gop-presidential-convention-nominating-c39147c98073eea712611648b31345b8)
- They even have two different versions of the Michigan GOP web site where one says Karamo is the party chair and the other says Hoekstra is the party chair. (Karamo: https://migop.org vs Hoekstra: https://michiganrepublicanparty.com)
- The two factions went to the national Republican party to solve the disagreement. The national Republican party recognizes Hoekstra as the Michigan state party chair.
- Karamo is still an election denier, though, so she doesnt accept that.
- Karamo is still in control of the partys bank accounts
- Not sure how the hell their primary is going to work like this. Edit: Just looked it up. Theyre going to do a primary AND a caucus, but each faction of the Michigan GOP is going to be holding separate caucuses in separate cities. WTF
What the hell
Edit: Turmoil*
god damn typos
