It was supposed to have contained Celebi inside of it, but when they did the fourth movie which also featured Celebi, the GS Ball plotline was seen as redundant so they had them drop it off with Kurt and leave it there, hoping that the fans would eventually forget about it. Honestly, the reasoning behind it was rather dumb.
