But no it isnt though? Concern trolling is when a troll couches their attempt to harm the target as coming from a place with the right reasons. Thats from the example you posted. Cloaking spite with the language of worry.

If I was concern trolling I might say something like guys, I really want Joe Biden to win but these memes are going to hurt his campaign effort!, and Id be saying this because I secretly believe the meme is helping his election chances and want it shut down.

I didn't say you were necessarily being intentionally spiteful, but the end result is ultimately the same.

That is a topic about genocide. A rather relevant one at that. Now if someone were to go into that topic and crack jokes, you could say that it was inappropriate, and I'd be behind you 100%. Instead, you have chosen to enter a topic about a joke, and have authoritatively demanded we not have this discussion because of genocide.

But am I not straight shooting ITT? I think its inappropriate to share this meme from Bidens social media based on what hes currently complicit in. Regardless of if its good for democrats to do it. Yet I dont think you shouldnt vote, or vote for Trump. What do you think I might be cloaking? You can call my feelings arbitrary all you want, no I dont have a mathematical formula to find at what point a meme about a powerful elected-by-us guy being evil is problematic but I do feel like genocide must be past that threshold. It may very well be that the dark Brandon meme was never appropriate; Im perfectly willing to consider that.

I didn't say you weren't straight shooting. I may have felt that way at one point but not so much anymore. You are not necessarily hiding anything either. I'd even venture out on a limb and say genuinely held beliefs compose the bulk of issues like these. People aren't really good at lying on the Internet. Eventually they lose interest because they don't really believe their own lies. And it's really hard to pretend to care about something when you don't really care about it.

Sometimes things don't really have an ulterior motive. They just are what they are. The one liner about cloaking spite at the top of the article is a very high level tl;dr. I encourage you to read the whole article all the way to the end if you haven't already as it provides examples and explanations of how people engage in this behavior without necessarily understanding that they are doing it, with or without sinister intentions.
