They more or less intentionally avoiding giving him anything that could impact their release schedule and what he wrote is practically ignored, so it's more likely they just wanted to use his name in marketing.

I think this isn't true. He wrote the setting and backstory. Like maybe he didn't do the Shattering and stuff, but he'd be the one who wrote the war against the giants and stuff like that.
