Im not sure why you are quoting me to flame Shaq. As for the rest of your points, its not even about opening up to those who prove to care about you. My mom cares about me a lot more than most in this world and she does the same shit. Its about evaluating how someone would respond before you open up. That is the key for me.

I would be very observant of someone I know. Just watch how they react to things and listen to what they say. Learn their beliefs. You only open up about things to people they can generally agree with. You can predict how they would react. If someone you know for a long time hates people that have drug problems or people overweight, you dont open up to that person about those things.

That is how I navigate things. I learn what a person is like over the years and I strategically open up about something specific if I feel the need to do so. I wont even open up to most people because I cant predict how they will react or they have a bad track record of how they feel about certain things.
