I thought the first half was very intriguing, thought provoking. And then it fell apart in the second half. Dame, the antagonist, became a one dimensional, cartoon villain instead of the layered character he was in the beginning. First half was great though.

I know TDKR, had the character come out of retirement due to original plans for Ledger's joker in the 3rd movie being scrapped due to his death.

I get what you're talking about, but Dame wasn't ever a three dimensional. He was always one dimensional, just wanted to use Adonis as a stepping stool to get the title shot and also as a way to get back at him. Though I do agree, I really did wish they made Dame into a more fleshed out character. The best part about the final match was when it goes "anime" when you don't hear or see the crowd and only see the both of them fight in the ring in silence. Made the fight more personal, which really made the fight work because it was also personal as well.
