None of the thrift stores near me were ever like that. If they were, that stopped happening long before COVID. But for as long as I remember it's always like 1-2 gen old games, which tend to be the least valuable anyway. And of those they're like 90% sports games, Wii Fit boards and Guitar Hero instruments. There would be an occasional gem but they're fewer and far between now.

I do remember up until the late 00s/early 10s when people considered retro games worthless, though you could find them at a regular game store anyway. I regret not capitalizing back then (though I didn't really have any money, even for $5 games)

Yeah I got both sealed copies of Suikoden 1 and Breath of Fire 3 for $15 each in like 2003 at a Babbages. Not retro at the time but still damn good deals for two great RPGs.
