18. Requiem for a Scream (Tubi)

So while I browsed Tubi for another movie to watch, the first option was a Tubi Original Movie. I've seen a few of them in the feed before, but I've always wondered just what quality is a Tubi Original Movie. So I decided to end my night by seeing precisely what one looks like.

Requiem for a Scream is about some fella in a mask making music by forcing his victims to scream on a certain key. When a budding singer goes to the cabin with her friends, the masked fella terrorizes them as he picks his new performer.

This stars a girl who was in about half of the Sharknado movies, so you know we have star power here. This movie is just created from a concept of a guy making screaming music, and then tacking on a girl as a singer that doesn't want to sing anymore, and her father trying to force her to.

That said, this movie is NOT good. It's your generic slasher cabin movie for the vast majority of it and the music part just bookends the film. The friends all suck and are just lame losers who argue with each other the whole time. The killer is mildly entertaining as he terrorizes them. And... this is just an empty film, really.

Since not a single soul here is going to seek out Tubi Original Movie Requiem for a Scream, I'll spoil a bit. One part that just baffled me was when the victims lie about calling the police, but he calls them out for not actually calling the police, because he had already cut the line or something to prevent it. But then when a police officer arrives, it's really him (for reasons???) and he claims they called him. And that's how they know it's not him. Why is this the killer's excuse? Why pretend to be a police officer? For what reason?

And then there's this one girl who is the certified bitch of the group. You know the one. And everyone slowly turns on her because she's terrible and keeps wanting to ditch everyone. And during one of the last fights she fucking BAILS and escapes and leaves everyone else to die or be kidnapped. And that's it. We never see her again. There's no conclusion to that except this terrible person just runs away to safety, and they move on.

So it's a unique little idea, I guess. A new idea for a killer that is sort of clever. But that doesn't really carry a movie. I didn't care about the film. It wasn't good. Tubi Original Movies are, as you might expect, not very quality films. Mystery solved. I don't plan on watching another one.
