That's just the nature of trophic levels: 1000 calories of meat takes ~10,000 calories of plants (assuming we're talking about eating herbivores, since the math gets even worse for carnivores) to produce. If arable land is limited enough that there's a chance it won't be able to feed everyone, using that land to grow livestock feed instead of food that can be directly eaten is a terrible idea. --- This is my signature.
