He lost to the best team of the tournament and the best squad in the tournament. The only times another England manager has had to deal with that is 2002 and 1986. "The point" is surface. You are reducing a guy who has clearly done a good job to impossibly slim margins that include France's first goal being a foul on Saka that wasn't given and a freakish penalty miss, and equating that to, say, Capello's idiotic starting XI vs. Germany in 2010 (as well as his generally awful management of that tournament) and Ericsson's rank inability to beat a decent Portugal with a superior squad. Those circumstances are not equal.
