Oh god yes. Not just the "stranded and trying to get home" aspect, or the "half the crew are terrorists" aspect, but also everything that made the characters interesting got jettisoned by episode two.

Like, Neelix in episode one basically manipulates the crew into helping rescue Kes, then worms his way into the crew by convincing them that they can't get through the Delta Quadrant without him - it's pretty clear that he's using a faux-affable persona to ingratiate himself for his own protection, while belying a more calculating streak. "Brilliant," you think, "this guy is Star Trek's own Doctor Smith! I can't wait to see how far he's willing to go or what happens when the faade inevitably slips and the conflicts arise!" Then, from episode 2 onwards, his defining characteristic is that "Haha, Space Hedgehog can't cook!"
