Wkipedia has a nice chart https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_density Gas has a density of 46.4 MJ/kg, while Li-ion batteries only come in at 0.59-1.06. With cars you can overcome this because you then get to gut the motor, but it doesn't quite work out with planes and semi-trucks. Fun fact, butter has 75% of the energy density as gasoline. ...
