During that time there's going to be multiple generations of worker ants who live and die to get it to that point (so if there's a nest in your house producing winged/breeding ants, there's probably a lot of damage done already) A queen who mates and starts a successful colony can live quite a lot longer (like 20-30 years) Yes, exactly.
