I was never privy to all of the confidential stuff, but I was close with people who were. It was plenty enough to learn about how the information is handled and how it gets used (or doesn't get used) to shape public opinion. You only need to look at Iraq and the WMD story to see that. That wasn't "bad intelligence". They knew nothing was there, but they needed the American people to support the invasion.
