i would also like to stand in defense of boston cream donuts.

I will also defend boston cream donuts, but it's really stupid that boston cream pie is actually a cake. We have the word "cake." We could call it boston cream cake and nobody would lose any understanding of what it is (in fact, many would likely understand it better). It's just dumb.

They act as if there is some advantage I get for being female or as if it requires some herculean effort to say she or even they instead of he. It's childish as fuck and then they somehow try to turn it around on me like I'm the one trolling them

It doesn't help that masquerading as other people is not an uncommon trolling tactic, but I can't say I've ever really understood the paranoia around alts and G.I.R.L.s and whatnot, nor why it's actually successful as trolling. Like if I told everyone I was blonde, then after several years said "ha ha I trolled all of you I was actually brunette this whole time!", I'd pretty unambiguously look like an idiot and nobody would care except to laugh at me. Holding usernames and gender claims to such a different standard makes no sense. It's not like you're going to treat the faceless blob of text appreciably differently if it claims to be female instead of male (or if you are, that's entirely on you and you should probably stop it), and while knowing who an alt is can be helpful to understand their personality, you're generally going to be able to understand that personality again pretty quickly if you just pay attention for a couple days even if you don't have prior knowledge of their identity to draw on.

Everyone just seems to be so afraid of being bamboozled, but these are like the lowest-stakes boozles that can possibly be bammed. You can just roll with whatever people claim about themselves and update your understanding later if it turns out they were a devious bamboozler. Worse, all of this paranoia around people "lying" about their gender is actually a major component of transphobia. The fact that quite a few people who are allegedly against transphobia participate so readily in gender policing when they think it's not a trans person reflects a lot about how accepting they actually are. Just accept people's genders as they choose to present them. If they later admit to lying, update your perception and move on. You've lost nothing by being "wrong."
