Huh. Should of been 5.5 billion. I blame being sick. Should only be around 1 billion before it becomes inhospitable for life, though.

Less than that. That's just the upper estimate for how long it will be until all higher life dies out. It could start happening as early as 500 million years.

Of course, there will be far bigger problems for people attempting to live on this shitty little mudball looong before that. We're pretty much statistically overdue for another extinction-level impact, we'll probably experience a mass extinction level gamma-ray burst before then, and that's not even getting into the apocalyptic climate shifts we're going to experience as continental drift continues to make a mess of the world's surface and the slow cooling of the Earth's core completely disrupts the magnetic field.

Realistically, even if humans do everything right and don't kill ourselves, we've probably only got about 300 million years tops before we either get the hell off this planet or die with it.

But let's be honest, we'll be long dead by then, because we're absolutely going to fuck everything up an die off long before.
