I've had these discussions before elsewhere, it pretty much comes down to how I don't like the story of New Vegas, because there was no real personal connection for you character to care. You are kinda thrown into the world and told to do whatever, sure there is the slight revenge thing, but sine you did nothing before getting shot I didn't care.

Both Fallout 3 and 4 have a story that pushes me to care about it. I don't think there is a right or wrong way, but I prefer the more structured story than the open ended stuff of New Vegas

... I... You know that *you're* the player in a role-playing game, right? Like, the revenge is just a initial bit to get you going and get you involved with the plot. The motivation that's supposed to be driving you through the game is *your* thoughts about the world around you, not that the game said your dad is that way without ever wanting to hear how you felt about your dad.

Also, "everyone is actual people" =/= "everyone is terrible." you don't get perfect factions in life.
