Immensely overrated game with awful gameplay. Just gets a ton of points from people who think a morally-grey CYOA is the pinnacle of storytelling. Which, I guess when your baseline for storytelling is Mario and Zelda then that probably makes a lot of sense.

I found New Vegas to be the best of those three.

I question your Fallout credentials.

I've had these discussions before elsewhere, it pretty much comes down to how I don't like the story of New Vegas, because there was no real personal connection for you character to care. You are kinda thrown into the world and told to do whatever, sure there is the slight revenge thing, but sine you did nothing before getting shot I didn't care.

Both Fallout 3 and 4 have a story that pushes me to care about it. I don't think there is a right or wrong way, but I prefer the more structured story than the open ended stuff of New Vegas

There is also a few minor problems I have, like how in NV each faction seems completely terrible, so I don't want to do anything to help, and the setting is super boring, with the radioactive desert looking like the same stuff I see outside right now.

But I am not saying New Vegas is terrible or anything, I still enjoyed my time with it. But it was disappointing to me at the time, and it is my least favorite of the "current" games

... I... You know that *you're* the player in a role-playing game, right? Like, the revenge is just a initial bit to get you going and get you involved with the plot. The motivation that's supposed to be driving you through the game is *your* thoughts about the world around you, not that the game said your dad is that way without ever wanting to hear how you felt about your dad.

Also, "everyone is actual people" =/= "everyone is terrible." you don't get perfect factions in life.

I actually really started enjoying caravan once I got the hang of it. The only thing I couldn't get the hang of was what strictly constituted a 'win;' seemed to me for awhile that the match would just pick an arbitrary point to declare the CPU a winner even though I felt I was ahead in the game. I think I finally sat down and read up on those specific criteria, but it didn't stick.

I also weirdly enjoy scouring merchant inventories for cards from the different casinos to add to my deck. The crown jewel - for obvious reasons that I'm only mildly ashamed of - is the Gomorrah Ace of Spades, featuring a drawing of a topless Bettie Page lookalike.

Yeah I was okay at it a while ago.
I can't remember much, I think the goal is to make 24 and I'm pretty sure my deck was crammed with Kings, Queens, 10s, 8s and 6s.

It'd probably look better if it wasn't juxtaposed with those card games at the casinos that you can bulldoze with 10 luck for easy caps.

Well I guess the game failed in motivating me, because my thoughts when playing the game was "I don't care about any of these people and their problems"

And I don't need perfect factions, Fallout 4 did a mostly better job have good and bad on each side (though both the Railroad and Minutemen could use more downsided) in New Vegas, I felt each faction was all downsides, the game made it hard to find any good in Caesar's Legion and the game brought up NCR's flaws at every turn.

Par for the course for a Bethesda-based game, and Obsidian did an admirable job of stabilizing it by the time post-release support dried up. Skyrim was waaaaay less stable on the 360 in my experience.

Surprisingly it's a little less stable on XB1, especially as the memory starts piling up late playthrough.

New Vegas is what every western RPG should aspire to be, basically. It's a nearly perfect game, which is deeply insane when you look into it and see how quickly Obsidian made it, and the bones of a bad game they built it on top of

Todd has been in charge of the Fallout IP for 16 years and the only good game that's come out since was made by somebody else

Oh, I never forgot my disastrous first playthrough at launch. Even my second playthrough got abandoned due to a bug. It took me giving the game a third chance (and playing Dead Money for the first time) for me to finally fall in love with it.

So the bugs actually give my history with the game a nice layer of redemption and forgiveness. New Vegas is the Prince Zuko of my gaming life.

1. I realize that. It doesn't make their statements any less nonsense.
2. New Vegas was not a particularly "big budget" game. It had a smaller team than the average game, had a dramatically smaller dev cycle, and piggy-backed off of another game's basically finished engine.

It had tons of bugs upon initial release. Since then the devs patched some of them, and fans have released massive patches to fix the rest. Not wanting to play NV because of bugs is a fallacy at this point.

I just finished a big playthrough and did all the DLC. Not remembering the DLC very well for both 3 and NV prompted new playthroughs for both.

Now Im around 50 hours in another F4 playthrough; survival/VH.

I love all three games. Each is very different from the other and I lovethat about them too.

F3s world is so desperate. Walking from the vault to MT reinforces that with the guy begging for purified water at the entrance. That level of desperation permeates the entire game. I love that about it.

NV, the desperation is different. There, its all about the impending invasion and fears of death and slavery. What really sets it apart is, of course, the factions and how they work, but also the way leveling works. I love that about it.

F4s map is King. The scavenging is deep and well thought out. In F4 survival, its all about coming up. Starting with nothing and building your empireor not. The freedom of choice in the how is subtle yet impactful. I love this game.

If I had to choose a favorite, its probably be NV. I really think its the leveling and only 25 perks that I like the most about it. Ive never struggled choosing how to spend park points in any other game as much as I do with this one. Making a build is really fun.
