I agree on TLOU2, and Final Fantasy X-2 is a strong candidate here as well:
- Follow-up to a safe, well-received entry in the franchise
- Sought to be the opposite of the previous entry in many ways
- Significant tonal shift (Compare TFA's sincere ending to TLJ's comedic lightsaber toss scene)
- Divisive portrayal of a beloved character (Luke/Yuna)
- "Subverted expectations" in terms of small-scale ideas but failed to take any serious risks down the stretch
- Praised by critics; divided the fanbase
