Snoke wouldn't have had any purpose outside of being what Palpatine was in TROS. Abrams had no interest in explaining their rise to power in either of his movies. He was just redoing what the Emperor was in the OT. A mysterious bad guy for Kylo Ren to turn against and be redeemed. What did he or we miss out on?
